High Adventure
Participating in high adventure is an exhilarating experience that pushes Scouts beyond their comfort zones and immerses them in the great outdoors. Our troop embarks on thrilling adventures at the BSA National High Adventure Bases, where we explore pristine wilderness, learn valuable skills, and create lasting memories. Here’s a glimpse of each base:
Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico: Covering over 214 square miles of rugged terrain, Philmont offers backpacking treks, horseback cavalcades, and service programs. Scouts and Venturers can earn the coveted 50-Miler Award while navigating this legendary country1.
Northern Tier (located in Minnesota and Canada): Known for its canoeing and winter camping programs, Northern Tier provides an opportunity to paddle through pristine lakes and rivers. Whether it’s a summer canoe trek or a winter adventure, Scouts learn teamwork, wilderness survival, and leadership skills.
Florida Sea Base: Set in the Florida Keys, this base focuses on aquatic adventures. Scouts can explore coral reefs, sail, snorkel, scuba dive, and even participate in marine biology programs. It’s a paradise for water enthusiasts!
Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia: Summit offers a wide range of activities, including rock climbing, zip-lining, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting. The Summit’s high-adventure programs challenge Scouts physically and mentally.
Paul R. Christen High Adventure Base (also known as The Summit) in West Virginia: This base is home to the Paul R. Christen National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) High Adventure Program. Scouts engage in outdoor leadership training, wilderness survival, and backcountry exploration.
Sabattis Adventure Camp in New York: Sabattis focuses on traditional Scouting skills, wilderness survival, and camaraderie. Scouts can participate in canoeing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
